Don’t burn waste illegally this bonfire night…
People who are planning on having a Guy Fawkes bonfire should only be burning small amounts of paper, leaves, wood and cardboard. Every year on November 5th, families are using old bit of furniture, foam & old clothes to build up their bonfire. Remember – it is illegal to burn most types of waste and setting fire to treated wood, plastic, tyres, rubber & oil can seriously harm health and pollute the environment.
People face a fine of up to £50,000 for illegally managing waste. Read the Environmental Agency advice at GOV.UK to make sure you are disposing of waste safely & legally. Event organisers and households can only burn clean, non-commercial waste.
Burning certain types of material can cause serious damage to peoples health & pollution. We want you to enjoy yourselves & keep you safe! Please dispose of your waste legally and safely!
Please make sure:
- Secure waste before being burned
- The material is suitable – may include untreated wood, paper, cardboard, branches, small amounts of leaves. Never use any plastics, rubber, glass or metals.
